The year 2022 marks the 2804th anniversary of our beloved city Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
The age of Yerevan is determined by the cuneiform inscription discovered at Erebuni fortress of Arin Berd hill, just southwest of Yerevan. This important stone document was created by the King Argishti I, the king of Urartu, and ruler of Tushpa (modern day Van), who built the mighty stronghold in 782 B.C. and called it Erebuni.
Our commemorative silk scarf is inspired by the partially surviving temple fresco of the Erebuni fortress depicting a blue sky with wheel like stars in marigold, surrounded with a row of conical shaped fruits from the tree of life. The edge of the scarf is finished in terra cotta color and the Urartian cuneiform writing, which is a praise to Erebuni /Yerevan, and it reads…
This is Erebuni, a beautiful city, already 2804 years old…
This is the home of mighty and remarkable people,
With truthful hearts and deep roots,
This is the valley of grape vines
And the sea of wine,
The source of happiness where…
The women are beautiful, and families are strong.
Erebuni - Erevuni - Erevan - Yerevan in Urartian and modern Armenian language, means to be seen, to be revealed, or to appear.
The etymology of the word is connected with the biblical Ark resting on mount Ararat after the flood. The valley was the first sight revealed to Noah, the patriarch of humanity.
