The inspiration for the Roslin scarf is taken from one of the cannon tables in the lavishly illuminated manuscript made in 1262 by T’oros Roslin, the celebrated illuminator and scribe whose work became very influential over the next seven hundred years of Armenian art. We have tried to stay as close as possible to the master’s vision in the colors and patterns used, while styling the scarf for the modern woman.
The complex interlacing patterns are symbols of eternal life, and the florals are a celebration of nature as we know it. The combination of these motifs come alive against the parchment-colored backdrop in vibrant colors. The ultramarine blue, olive green, maroon, and the precious Armenian “vordan” red come together in a celebratory fashion. The metallic gold outlines bring a final touch of preciousness, harkening back to the medieval inspiration.
